In FactSet's most recent podcast episode, we continued the conversation with MSCI Barra's Executive Director and Head of Core Equity Research for the Americas. Frank Nielsen, who was first a guest on our webseries, shared which areas of the emerging world performed the best and the worst, how emerging markets countries are recovering, and provided a perspective on which areas are likely to be positive in coming quarters. Frank also discussed the the disparity between recovery in the developing regions and in the emerging regions: "When one looks at the sector performance we see very strong differences between emerging markets and developed markets in 2008. To be specific, in emerging markets in 2008 energy and industrials and financials were the worst performing sectors and they also were pretty much the strongest ones in 2009, having very strong rebounds. Whereas in developed markets, financials, as everybody knows performed terribly in 2008 and have not recovered as in emerging markets, highlighting the continued uncertainty of some of the biggest financial institutions."
