Analyzing markets isn’t just about the big picture view – it can also be useful to analysts who need to break down the most granular specifics of sectors and industries. At the 2011 FactSet Investment Process Symposium taking place at the end of this month, Lauren Kline, Market Analysis Specialist at FactSet, will examine the solutions that FactSet’s Economic Analysis offers to all user types. Here’s a sneak peak at how an analyst can use Economic Analysis to make better investment decisions.

Let's take a closer look at Ford’s company data over the past 15 years. In FactSet, you can chart the sales numbers or any value from the balance sheet. Then, choose from 1.6 million series from more than 700 primary sources to bring in employment data from the auto industry over the same time period.

Examine the impact of industry employment on auto sales in Economic Analysis charting.

In the chart you create (example on the right), you can see the correlation, apply a transformation to manipulate the display, apply a recession band, and more. Ultimately, you’re able to draw the conclusions that will define your recommendations, efficiently and accurately. In the chart of auto employment versus Ford motor sales, many of these options have been used to help present and understand the data more easily.

To see how FactSet's Economic Analysis tools enhance the workflow of Portfolio Managers, Quants, and Marketing departments, attend the Markets and Industry Analysis Product Workshop at the Symposium.
