Is the MENA Value Triangle Complete?
Fadi Al Said, CFA
Head of Investment
ING Investment Management (Middle East) Ltd

Economies that have grown or transformed themselves have done so by optimizing the three foundations of the value triangle: physical capital; human capital; and framework. Historically, the MENA economy has not benefited from an optimal framework. In this session Fadi will discuss indications that show this is changing and ask whether the value triangle for the MENA region is now complete.

Fadi joined ING Investment Management (Middle East) Ltd, as Director of Equities and the Senior Fund Manager. Most recently, Fadi was a senior fund manager in the Asset Management division at NBD Investment Bank where he managed the two flagship funds (MENA equities and GCC balanced funds). Fadi was previously at Noor Capital where he was a Senior Vice President heading up the Asset Management division. He also worked for Damac Invest as a Senior Investment Manager, where he co- managed a multi billion Dirham portfolio invested in the MENA region. He was responsible for leading a team covering Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, UAE and other emerging markets. Prior to that, Fadi was the Head of Research at Al Jazira Bank in Saudi Arabia.

Fadi brings more than ten years of experience in portfolio management, research & asset allocation, and holds a Bsc in Economics from the University Of Jordan. Fadi became a CFA charter holder in June 2010.

Investing In MENA Markets Post Arab Spring
Amin El Kholy
Managing Director, Asset Management
Arqaam Capital

Domestic political developments in the MENA region were mostly ignored before 2011 and will now be a permanent feature of investment risk analysis. Furthermore, the new climate is throwing the old and seemingly well-established geo-political into instability. The talk aims to highlight some of the issues to keep an eye on when looking at opportunities and risks in the region

Prior to joining Arqaam, Mr El Kholy was Chief Investment Officer and Head of Asset Management at Shuaa Asset Management where he oversaw the management of funds with total AUMs of USD 1.7 billion. In this role he restructured and led the investment team, designing and implementing rigorous investment processes. In 2004, Mr El Kholy joined the National Bank of Dubai (“NBD”) as Head of Asset Management where he initiated and ran the in‐house asset management activities offering new products to the market. During this time the NBD’s GCC fund outperformed both its benchmark and its peer group with total AUM reaching USD 300 million. Mr El Kholy spent the first thirteen years of his career working in the UK at institutions such as HSBC and United Bank of Kuwait (“UBK”). This included being a founding member of the first equity funds to span All Arab markets at UBK London as well as being part of the team which launched The Arab Gateway Fund at Primecorp Invest Management in collaboration with Shuaa Capital in 1999.

Mr El Kholy holds a MEng (Hons) degree and a PhD from Imperial College London.
