Q&A with Bjorn, Institutional Sales Executive
Bjorn has been at FactSet for five years. His career at FactSet began with a five-week induction program at FactSet headquarters in the U.S. with new FactSet hires from all over the globe. This training is a core part of FactSet's onboarding process and provides valuable insight into our product, processes, and market.
Q: Why did you join FactSet?
A: I didn't want to miss out on the chance of being there pretty much from the start.
When I started in Sydney, there were five people in the office -- eight if you include the three of us who started together. I saw this as a great career opportunity.
Q: Why?
A: This is a small office and there's no place to hide, which means you are responsible for making strategic decisions that affect everyone. Also, because everyone knows everything, you get recognized for your successes.
Q: Do you feel there is a lot of opportunity/mobility at FactSet?
A: Over the years I have seen colleagues from Sydney move to FactSet's U.S. and London offices and there are now several people in Sydney who relocated from other FactSet locations. So yes, I feel there's loads of opportunity here -- as well as throughout the organization.
Q: Can you provide some insight into the FactSet culture?
A: I usually participate in sporting events, such as soccer competitions or our Friday basketball games with clients. We try to involve the entire office in these events and competitions. Being on the field or court lets us "switch off" and not talk about work. This definitely helps to get to know your colleagues and build friends outside of the day-to-day work environment.
Q: What is your favorite part of your job?
A: It's actually pretty simple -- you know the knot you get in your stomach when you wake up in the morning because you have to go to work, but really don't want to? In five years with FactSet, I have NOT had that feeling once! Of course, I would be lying if didn't say there aren't days I'd rather not spend in the office. But, overall, my job is great.
Q: If someone came to you now and said, "I'm thinking about applying to FactSet", what advice would you give them?
A: HURRY!
